Our legal counsel, in collaboration with a representative from Transport Canada, will be delivering a presentation in the session: “NPD50 – Maritime shipping in the Arctic: Observations, management, and adaptation”.
The presentation called “’Who Pays for an Oil Spill? Compensation in the Arctic” will cover the Fund’s claims portfolio for incidents in the Arctic.
- Over the past 32 years, while more than a dozen incidents were monitored in the Arctic, the Fund only received three claims. Less than $92,000 was paid out to claimants, representing 0.35% of the total amount paid from the Fund (over $26 million).
