Ports are very often involved in oil spill response operations. Their assets may be contaminated, and their normal operations may be disrupted by an oil spill. Yet, they represent less than 6% of the claims submitted from 1989 to 2019. This represents only 2.5% of the total amount paid by the Fund over this 30-year period. Also, the Fund hasn’t received a claim for a port in over two years.
