Anne Legars was appointed Administrator of the Ship-source Oil Pollution Fund, in May 2016, after working some 25 years in maritime and transportation law and policy, in both private practice and industry.
She began working in maritime law in 1992, upon entering private practice. In 2000, she joined the Shipping Federation of Canada, a national industry organization representing ocean shipping in Canada, as Director, Policy & Government Affairs, becoming its Vice-President in 2011, a position she held until she moved to consulting in 2015.
Over the years, she acted as a legal, strategic, governance and policy advisor and represented her principals and clients in a variety of forums. She developed an excellent knowledge of the industry and an extensive experience in government affairs.
She has been involved in oil spill issues for over two decades, from prevention to enforcement, to preparedness and response, to liability, and from international conventions to the promotion of best practices by owners and operators.
Anne Legars is a member of the Quebec Bar. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Institut d’Études Politiques de Grenoble, France. She also holds a Bachelor, a Master and a Post-graduate Degree in Law from Université de Grenoble II, France, as well as a Bachelor in Law Equivalency and a LL.M. from Université de Montréal.
